Robert Stadlober - Rosental/Rož Festival
What's it about?
If we are not cruel for once, we immediately believe we are good. To open the festival, actor and musician Robert Stadlober plays and sings his interpretations of poems by Kurt Tucholsky, accompanied on accordion by his friend and companion Daniel Moheit. Stadlober, born in Friesach/Carinthia and known for numerous roles in film and television, draws parallels from the Weimar Republic to the present with his careful and tongue-in-cheek settings. On the surface, it's about everyday themes, but beneath it resonates Tucholsky's biting criticism of the hypocrisy and complacent comfort of the (petty) bourgeoisie, which paved the way for the burgeoning Nazi dictatorship. Parallel to his musical settings, Robert Stadlober has published a selection of Tucholsky poems with an introduction and afterword at Verbrecher Verlag in Berlin. Under the direction of Bernd Liepold-Mosser, Robert Stadlober played the main role in the production "Amerika" at the Klagenfurt Stadttheater, which was awarded the Nestroy Theater Prize in 2011. "Robert Stadlober endows Tucholsky's characters with all good gifts: concentrated irony, a touch of tenderness. This fabulous record is like a brief pause" (Der Standard). "Stadlober sets the music restrainedly, giving space to their linguistic rhythm and interpreting unpretentiously and clearly. It blows you away because you understand what literature can actually do. Buy it all. It's important." (Musikexpress)
