What's it about?

The Museum Liaunig presents in its large hall this year's collection exhibition of modern and contemporary art titled '(K)ein Begriff'. Curated by Alexandra Schantl, the exhibition is dedicated to a central yet open theme: sculpture. Starting from the observation that the concept of sculpture has increasingly expanded since the 20th century and is now hardly definable, the show explores its development from both historical and contemporary perspectives. Since Marcel Duchamp's readymades and the theoretical considerations of Rosalind E. Krauss, sculpture has been regarded as an open field encompassing a wide variety of materials, media, and forms of expression. The exhibition spans from classical positions of Austrian sculpture after 1945 – including works by Fritz Wotruba and his circle – to contemporary approaches that understand sculpture as a process, idea, or spatial experience.
