For Ingeborg Bachmann's 100th birthday, the theater association Ars ex Machina has commissioned the author duo Tamara Štajner and Paul-Henri Campbell to conjure up the mermaid Undine in a Carinthian triptych. Unlike in "Undine geht", the monologue shifts, gets out of control: Mayor Hans intoxicates himself at a bizarre folk festival with a speech that babbles on in traditionalist longing and uninhibited misogyny – here, Bachmann's Hans figures assert their world. Among the visitors, the spirit of Undine buzzes, infiltrates, misunderstands the speaker. Starting from the folk festival, the audience wanders through two contrasting landscapes. In the first – "Undine's Gut" – it seeks a new way of dealing with the world. The second landscape is a dream place, a space filled with Bachmann's linguistic power – the audience immerses itself in a soundscape seeking confidence. With three actors (Eva Brunner, Julia Hammerl, Clemens Janout), under the direction of Christina Constanze Polzer, a triptych about Bachmann and her Carinthia emerges: between idyll and abyss, outbreak and haunting. Because: Not only truth is bearable for humans – dreaming is too.
