What's it about?

Duration approx. 50 minutes in German max. 20 visitors per tour The Graz-based artist duo Marta Navaridas and Alexander Deutinger presented a special guided tour at the kärnten.museum titled Emancipation of Wonder as part of the Zugzwang Festival Klagenfurt 2025. This year, the extraordinary production is once again part of the festival. The tour through the permanent exhibition is based on comments and observations by 8- to 10-year-old students about the exhibition rooms and exhibits. In a series of workshops beforehand, the artists allow themselves to be led through the museum blindfolded by the children and ask them to explain and describe in their own way what there is to see. Their descriptions and interpretations are recorded and transcribed. Using this material, Navaridas & Deutinger develop a tour for adults that gives the audience a humorous and mercilessly honest perspective on the museum, the exhibition design, and numerous exhibits. They view the exhibition uninhibitedly, without the prejudices and strict behavioral norms of adults, and with the unique poetics of childlike movement and seeing. Marta Navaridas and Alexander Deutinger both have a professional background in translation studies as well as dance and choreography. Since 2006, they have been jointly developing text-based performance works. In their projects, they are interested in performative ways of text and movement manipulation and playfully question societal formats and habits of perception. The internationally touring artist couple uses dance, theater, and performance venues, as well as galleries, museums, and public spaces as places for play and negotiation.
