What's it about?
Johannes Silberschneider & David Reumüller "POP 1900–2000: A Show. A Lecture! A musical journey through Styria." The stage program accompanying the exhibition POP 1900–2000 offers a varied overview of 100 years of popular music in Styria – from the beginning of the 20th century to the year 2000. In a combination of lecture, scenic elements, and audiovisual clips, David Reumüller and Johannes Silberschneider guide the audience through the most important stages of Styrian music history. The focus is on influential personalities and musical developments: from early artists like Mirzl Hofer and Alexander Girardi, through the era of the Comedy Harmonists and the caesura of National Socialism, to the jazz-influenced post-war period and the folk sounds of the Edler Trio or the Kernbuam. The second part of the program is dedicated to the emergence of beat music and finally the great successes of Styrian musicians from the 1970s onwards – including Stefanie Werger, STS, Opus, EAV, and many more. Alternative movements and the stylistic diversity of the regional music landscape are also discussed. The evening is complemented by contributions from contemporary witnesses, who expand and bring to life the historical facts with personal memories, insights, and anecdotes. And even if the focus is on information and education: an evening with Johannes Silberschneider, David Reumüller, and their guests promises not only new insights but probably also excellent entertainment – with spontaneous moments that might even lean towards cabaret. From Mirzl Hofer and Alexander Girardi to the Comedy Harmonists, post-war jazz, the Kernbuam and beat music, to STS, Stefanie Werger, Opus, EAV, and alternative scenes: In this stage program accompanying the exhibition POP 1900–2000, David Reumüller and Johannes Silberschneider trace 100 years of Styrian popular music – knowledgeable, lively, and supported by multimedia. Karl Tiffner from Melody & Rhythmus from Kalwang and the musicians Heli Wagner and Gerry Schweiger from Leoben enrich the evening with personal memories and rare insights. An informative journey through music history – with the guarantee that, despite all objectivity, it will also be entertaining or even cabaret-like.
