What's it about?
At the village square in Hengsberg, the popular Nikolaus celebration takes place, which puts both young and old into a Christmas mood. Saint Nicholas traditionally visits children on or around December 6th and gives them gifts, while the village festival at the square offers a cozy atmosphere for the whole family. In Styria, Nikolaus Day is a special tradition often accompanied by Krampus and Perchten runs – an impressive and sometimes spooky spectacle deeply rooted in alpine folk culture. Hengsberg, a community in the South Styrian wine region between Leibnitz and the Sausal, provides the idyllic village square as the perfect setting for this traditional custom. A wonderful occasion for families from the surrounding area to get into the Christmas spirit together and experience the lively local customs.
