What's it about?

The most important and largest nativity scene exhibition in Styria is located in Auen in Passail! Dr. Bernd Mayer at Birglhof owns more than 600 exhibits from around the world. The focus of the collection is mainly on nativity scenes from the countries of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Birglhof, the old farm building, has been converted into a spacious museum, providing a dignified setting for the nativity scenes. In addition to large nativity scenes with often several hundred figures from Ebensee or Grulich, impressive natural and shell nativity scenes, treasures from the nativity scene capitals Viechtau and Nassereith, there are numerous small masterpieces and rarities from Gothic to modern times. The unique nativity scenes can be admired during Advent, but also year-round outside of exhibition times by appointment by phone. Winter 2026 dates, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM: - November 28 & 29 - December 5 & 6 - December 8 - December 12 & 13 - December 19 & 20 Guided tours are also available.
