The high art of swing, as Artie Shaw, Count Basie or Duke Ellington taught us, with a touch of spiritual, soul, reggae and rhythm & blues: The eardrum already vibrates in advance and the auditory nerves are exposed when the colored singer DENISE GORDON (UK) with all her Caribbean heritage and great Viennese swing tradition in the form of the VIENNA SWING QUARTETT together enter the stage. DENISE GORDON grew up in England as the daughter of Caribbean parents and lives as a singer-songwriter in London and on her home island in the Caribbean. As a soulful jazz singer, she celebrates success around the world, from Australia to Zimbabwe. Already at the age of three, she sang gospels with her mother in church. Through her Afro-Caribbean heritage, she convinces her audience as a jazz singer in numerous styles from spiritual, soul and rhythm & blues to New Orleans and funk. In her current concert series, she is accompanied by the VIENNA SWING QUARTETT. Herb Berger (saxophone and chromatic harmonica), Herbert Swoboda (piano), Martin Treml (double bass) and Wolfgang Kendl (drums) are congenial accompanying musicians of international jazz greats and form a swinging ensemble that knows how to support Denise Gordon in her musical versatility. The concert on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Kunsthaus Weiz (start 6 p.m.) is the only concert with DENISE GORDON outside of Vienna.
