Judas, a Human - The Musical
What's it about?
"JUDAS, ein Mensch" - A musical that gets under your skin. In September 2025, the music theatre project "JUDAS, ein Mensch" premiered at the Kulturzentrum Eisenstadt - a moving work that tells the Passion story from the perspective of Judas Iscariot. Instead of condemning him as a traitor, the play shows his human side: doubt, longing, and inner turmoil. A narrator - the "Provocateur" - guides through 20 impressive scenes that link biblical content with current questions. The music by Thomas J. Steiner, who also directs, ranges from intimate duets to powerful choir scenes and is interpreted live by a chamber orchestra, rock band, and choir. The ensemble consists of around 35 participants from Eastern Austria. Particularly noteworthy are Josiah Ault and Roman Wagner as Judas, who impress with emotional depth and stage experience. Other roles are taken on by Lisi Lorincz, Johanna Weinhoffer, Tristan Schneider, Susanne Dunst, and Michael Wachelhofer, among others. The project is supported by the non-profit association Musical-Werkstatt Sonnenland, which is dedicated to promoting youth. With idealism, passion, and voluntary commitment, a musical is created here that touches, challenges - and resonates long after.
