Originally known in the German-speaking world as a tale by the Brothers Grimm, the story of the young girl cursed by an evil fairy and saved only by the kiss of true love was adapted into a ballet and premiered in 1890 at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg. To this day, Dornröschen remains one of the most popular ballets and has become part of the international standard repertoire of classical ballet. The ballet Dornröschen was created in close collaboration between Peter I. Tchaikovsky and Marius Petipa, arguably the most important choreographer of the 19th century. It fascinates due to its formal perfection and highly developed choreographic and musical expression, appealing to connoisseurs. Thanks to its fairy-tale immediacy and theatrical brilliance, Dornröschen also captivates a broad audience. Additionally, the magnificent stage design by the brilliant theater designer Vjatscheslav Okunev, who has worked for the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg and La Scala in Milan, along with beautiful costumes and the boundless elegance and carefree lightness of the 'International Festival Ballet' ensemble, create a dreamy and fairy-tale-like version of a classic ballet that continues to fascinate even after more than 100 years. The International Festival Ballet was founded in 2009 to represent the best traditions and the spirit of classical ballet. It is an international ballet company that thinks beyond national borders, bringing together dancers from 20 different nations and standing for understanding and coexistence through the poetry of art, music, and dance. Artistically, the ballet represents the Russian school of classical ballet in its purest form.
