Book Presentation: "Baroque Building Craftsmen in Bregenzerwald Guild Books"
What's it about?
Known are the names of the great Bregenzerwald Baroque master builders: Michael Beer, Kaspar Moosbrugger, Franz Beer von Bleichten, Peter Thumb. But what is known about the specific historical contexts from which these 17th and 18th-century master builders with their epochal artistic achievements emerged? What is known about the history behind art history? In this lecture, the author presents a new book that focuses on these and similar questions. Starting from the oldest Bregenzerwald guild books, which are made accessible to all interested parties in a critical edition for the first time, it is argued: The Bregenzerwald Baroque master builders and their art-historical significance can only be understood if their anchoring in the local history of the Bregenzerwald – especially in the history of the guild-organized construction craft – is recognized.
