What's it about?
"... The man belongs in the Great Bavarian Songbook, in the Hall of Fame of Bavarian songwriters," says Bavarian Broadcasting – and in this case, they are entirely correct. For 20 years now, the man from Bad Reichenhall has been on the road, and somewhere between Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and a Bavarian poacher, Söllner expresses his nature – singing in the songwriter tradition of American directness, with great musical instinct, as if pioneering free spirits returning to the Alps. Söllner's view of life is uncompromising; his image of the world he wants to live in is just, and his anger at those who seek to destroy this world and its creatures comes with raw power. "We have forgotten that we are the only species that can choose to change something. We can end misery before misery ends us. I try to believe in the good, even if I don't always succeed, and I repeatedly show our hypocrisy in my songs," says Söllner. Nevertheless, or perhaps because of this, hope is always the greatest strength in his songs; tenderness and love are always stronger than anger or despair. But woe to those who misuse the concept of freedom or try to restrict Söllner's fundamental freedom; his directness and roughness can be merciless, and his precision in detecting false notes is legendary. So hold on tight, you sensitive souls and conflict avoiders, this is serious. In his language, which aims not only to play a bit of Bavaria, Söllner lives with all his might and incredible emphasis in what and how he says. Hans Söllner howls and whispers – screams and scolds – speaks and tells – laughs and grins – makes you sad or happy – drives you forward and holds you back. Intense – precise – relentless – always in the rhythm of life.
