Rick (Paul Rudd), as the frontman of a wedding band, creates great feelings and lively atmosphere night after night, even though his own music career has never reached the hoped-for heights. During a performance, he meets Danny (Nick Jonas), a former boy band star whose successes are several years behind him. The two musicians immediately connect creatively. During a spontaneous jam session late into the night, a completely new energy develops. While Danny returns to the spotlight with renewed confidence, Rick begins to believe in his own voice again. When Danny turns a song by Rick into a number-one hit, Rick is suddenly faced with the question of how far he is willing to go to claim the fame he deserves. 'Power Ballad' is an ultra-charming film about wounded egos, shattered dreams, disappointments, authenticity, and the idea that a song is more than just melody and lyrics – it can mean different things to everyone.
