What's it about?
The painter Theodor von Hörmann (1840–1895) is considered one of the pioneers of Impressionism in Austria and a significant precursor of the Vienna Secession. His path to art was not straightforward: after his career as an officer, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In 1884, with his marriage, he began an intensive period of traveling, including to Paris, which had a lasting impact on his artistic work. The exhibition "Am Wegesrand" features four contemporary artists engaging with Hörmann's work and understanding of art. Through painting, drawing, photography, installation, sculpture, and music, they enter into a dialogue with his oeuvre and open new perspectives on his creative output. "Am Wegesrand" reveals how the paths of art—twisted, fragmentary, or illuminating—intersect, continue, and are constantly rediscovered. This is an exhibition in the series "Ferdinandeum unterwegs".
