Am Wegesrand
What's it about?
The painter Theodor von Hörmann (1840–1895) is considered one of the pioneers of Impressionism in Austria and a significant precursor to the Vienna Secession. However, his path to art was not straightforward: after his career as an officer, he studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. With his marriage in 1884, an intensive period of travel began, including to Paris, which profoundly shaped his artistic work. In the exhibition "Am Wegesrand" (By the Wayside), four contemporary artists engage with Hörmann's work and understanding of art. Through painting, drawing, photography, installation, sculpture, and music, they enter into a dialogue with his oeuvre and open up new perspectives on his work. "Am Wegesrand" makes visible how the paths of art – winding, fragmentary, or illuminating – intersect, continue, and are constantly re-explored. An exhibition in the series "Ferdinandeum unterwegs."
