The man wandering in his entanglements, longing for redemption, is a recurring motif in Wagner's operas. In The Flying Dutchman, the composer's self-image seems to be particularly clearly reflected in an operatic character. A captain condemned to eternal life strands on Norway's coast, meets Senta, who redeems him through her suicide. The young Kapellmeister Wagner's wife was unfaithful at the time, so in response to the storms in his own life, he composed the icon of unconditional love.Tickets via: www.tiroler-festspiele.at or +43 5373 81000 20
