What's it about?

The man wandering in his entanglements, longing for redemption, is a recurring motif in Wagner's operas. In The Flying Dutchman, the composer's self-image seems to be particularly clearly reflected in an operatic character. A captain condemned to eternal life strands on Norway's coast, meets Senta, who redeems him through her suicide.
