Pop often talks about certainties: clear attitudes, clear feelings, clear sounds. But reality is often more contradictory. My Ugly Clementine address exactly this point. The Vienna-based band is not interested in either-or but in the in-between. In moments when uncertainty is not masked but visible. In energy that is not smooth but creates friction. Founded in 2019 by Sophie Lindinger, the band includes Mira Lu Kovacs and Nastasja Ronck on guitars as well as Günther Paulitsch on drums, bringing together several influential voices of the Vienna music scene. The term "supergroup" was mentioned early — not as a marketing idea, but as a reaction to the obvious artistic substance of this project. Their first concert sold out quickly — long before any music was released. An unusual start that proved justified: the debut single "Never Be Yours" shot to the top of the FM4 charts, and the album "Vitamin C" received awards across Europe. Since then, each milestone has followed another: festival appearances at Eurosonic Noorderslag, multiple Amadeus Awards, and steadily increasing international attention. But success alone does not explain why this band reaches so many people. My Ugly Clementine combine raw, guitar-driven directness with a strong sense of melodies. Their songs address themes like feminism, equality, and empowerment, without ever seeming preachy. It is an approach that is political because it takes experiences seriously — both their own and others'. With their third album "Apply Autonomy," they sharpen this profile further. The tracks sound more immediate, sometimes more unruly, then almost fragile. It is an album that does not resolve tensions but makes them productive. On stage, it becomes clear how consistent this attitude is. My Ugly Clementine seek contact, ask questions, create space. They appear attentive and present, without completely dissolving the distance between stage and audience. This creates a special dynamic: the concerts remain intense without falling into pathos. Live, the songs gain both power and openness. Guitars drive more strongly, rhythms shift, voices carry further. The audience does not just listen but becomes part of a shared event that changes from night to night.
