What's it about?
At Bilderbuchzauber, all children, especially those from kindergarten to elementary school age, are invited to immerse themselves in the world of books together. In about an hour, two books are read interactively, with lots of laughter and, most importantly, shared time. A special highlight is the bilingual reading once a month: together with native speakers, one page is read in German and in the respective foreign language. This way, children hear other languages playfully and discover new cultures. Both children growing up multilingual and those without a foreign language background are welcome. "For later reading skills, reading aloud is an important foundation. It expands children's vocabulary, promotes language development, and stimulates imagination," says library staff member Edith Hatzmann, who started and developed the project in January 2026. All children, parents, grandparents, and other relatives are warmly welcome. The city library sees itself as a place of encounter free of consumption. While some go on exciting story journeys, others can browse the extensive selection of the city library and take stories home. The success of the reading promotion is also demonstrated by the project "Volksschule goes Stadtbücherei," implemented together with the Rieder elementary schools. School classes visit the library several times a school year, receive a reading pass, and get a behind-the-scenes look. This way, they can learn early about the treasure trove of books the library offers and discover the joy of reading.
