
Oswald (* around 604 in Northumbria; 5 August 642 near Oswestry) was king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria from 634–642. He is venerated as a saint. The cult of Oswald also spread to Ireland and continental Europe, especially in Flanders, Germany and Austria. Oswald is the patron saint of the Alpbach church.
