We warmly invite you to the book presentation of "Alleinruhelage" (KiWi) with Eva Menasse. Moderation: Robert Renk. After the end of her marriage, a woman suddenly finds herself alone with her weekend house. Here, she once sought idyll with her family and now wants to make a fresh start. The necessary help seemed to fall from the sky, Alla and Bolek from Poland, two chain smokers who can do everything. The renovations and setbacks, burst water pipes, and the malice of neighboring allotment gardeners evoke many memories and new insights — and perhaps the narrator perceives some pitfalls of German-German history more keenly than a Viennese woman in double foreignness. She then decides to sell her beloved house to once again leave and break out from her "stable single residence." Eva Menasse has written a multi-layered novel about the interim balance of a life, a clever reflection on foreignness and homeland — and saying goodbye.
