Circus Roncalli
What's it about?
The hands on the clock run backwards, the balloon is ready to take off: Bernhard Paul's Circus-Theater Roncalli is ready for the grand anniversary tour celebrating the 50th birthday of "Europe's most admired Circus" (Herald Tribune Washington). Opening the door to the future Bernhard Paul's team has prepared a real fireworks display of ideas for the 50th anniversary. "The program should not be a 'Best of' or a poetic, dreamy retrospective, but rather a door opening to the future!" says the founder and circus director of Roncalli. The beloved Roncalli flair and the courage to innovate will remain: "Strengthened by the experiences of 50 years of the Roncalli idea, we go into the anniversary tour with enthusiasm and passion. - Let yourself be surprised!" The journey to the rainbow On May 18, 1976, Roncalli celebrated the world premiere of "The greatest poetry of the universe" and toured through Austria. It performed in Vienna, Graz, and Salzburg, where audiences could experience the unique mix of theater, clowning, and dream world for the first time. But it was the premiere of "The Journey to the Rainbow" on June 4, 1980, in Cologne that established the legendary success. Roncalli is a poetic counterpoint to the circuses of that time. Bernhard Paul, originally from Lower Austria, is celebrated as a renewer of circus art. He focuses on the overall staging. In the following years, the circus expanded, attracting audiences in droves, performing at the invitation of cultural offices and theater festivals, and traveling as NRW's cultural ambassador to Moscow, Seville, Copenhagen, and New York. Today, Roncalli stands for much more than just circus. The live entertainment company is admired and awarded worldwide for its extraordinary show concepts and experiential worlds. Roncalli's next generation With its anniversary, Roncalli in 2026 celebrates not only the life's work of its founder Bernhard Paul. The next generation, including Vivian, Adrian, and Lili Paul-Roncalli, is already ready to take the stage. The anniversary year will also be an opportunity for them to present their vision for the dream manufactory to the world.
