What's it about?
This exhibition by the Association of Nativity Scene Friends of Austria features significant works by masters such as Romed Speckbacher, Johann Nepomuk Giner, Josef Zeissler, as well as the Pinzgau nativity scene master Xandi Schläffer, with loans from the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum in Innsbruck, the Mining and Gothic Museum in Leogang, and private collections, on the theme of the oriental nativity scene. Oriental nativity scenes and depictions The focus of the nativity exhibition is on oriental nativity scenes and depictions in various sizes and types of figures. Pilgrimages to the Holy Land in the 19th century influenced how the birth of Jesus Christ was depicted in the nativity scene. Pilgrims who visited the Holy Land brought very concrete visual ideas of the landscape, architecture, and people of the Orient back home.
