With musicians from the 50-year-old oenm, short for Österreichisches Ensemble für Neue Musik, the recently retired professor of various forms of jazz and improvisation lives out a polyamorous relationship with these desired musical partners. The fact that the above-quoted French Gymnopédist is honored in a duo with harp and piano, and that two different trombones are added for “Joni” (which could well be dedicated to a Canadian friend of Charles Mingus) or the onomatopoeic “Snowflakes Chaos Theory,” only makes things more exciting. Jazz and New Music are, like the 66-year-old, “still alive,” as another title states.
