Advance notice Venezia-Austria 25.9.2026 8:00 PM An extraordinary musical event is announced for September 25 in Mondsee: With Maestro Marco Gemmani and the Cantores di San Marco, an ensemble that draws directly from the tradition of San Marco in Venice will be guest. This is the place where Venetian polychorality flourished. In a collaboration already well established with the Kantorei St. Michael Mondsee, a concert will be created that makes historical connections audible again. The focus is on works by Austrian composers who were trained in Venice by Giovanni Gabrieli and Andrea Gabrieli, and who carried the magnificent polychorality into the Alpine region. The underlying scores come from historical archives – among others in Venice – and have been specially prepared for this concert by Marco Gemmani and arranged for performance. Thus, in Mondsee, music will be performed that has not been heard for more than 300 years – a piece of musical history that is in some ways a rediscovery. With the use of historical instruments such as trombones and shawms, an extraordinary spatial sound unfolds, which impressively utilizes the architectural possibilities of the venue and immerses the audience in a long-past, yet surprisingly lively sound world.
