What's it about?

Alzheimer is also called the disease of the whole family. Experts assume that on average, four family members are affected when a person has dementia. Relatives are often faced with many problems and challenges due to the illness of their partner or parent. To avoid becoming ill themselves from overstrain, thorough information about Alzheimer/dementia and available support services is important. "Dementia changes many things. But with knowledge, support, and understanding, challenges can be managed better and valuable moments preserved," explains Yvonne Numberger, head of the Dementia Service Center Braunau, of the MAS Alzheimerhilfe, offering a free informational event for relatives to provide relief and support. At the same time, those affected have the opportunity to gain insight into a MAS resource training. In addition to memory performance, this also promotes concentration, creativity, everyday skills, and movement. "With stage-appropriate resource training, it can be possible to maintain the cognitive functions of those affected longer, train the memory, preserve social skills, and strengthen sensory perceptions, joy of life, and self-esteem," explains Numberger, emphasizing the importance of memory training, and warmly invites all interested to come and participate. The informational event for relatives covers topics such as: an overview of Alzheimer/dementia, possibilities for relief and engagement.
