Workshop: YOUTH THEATER COURSE AGES 11+ | "The Bug"

Wednesday 23 September · 16:00Kulturhaus Emailwerk · salzburg

What's it about?

The YOUTH THEATER CLUB performs "The Bug" based on the novel by Paul Shipton in a theater adaptation by Lydia Nassall ABOUT THE PLAY "The Bug" (original title: Bug Muldoon) is a humorous insect crime novel by Paul Shipton. The story follows the cool beetle and private detective Bug Muldoon, who investigates the disappearance of an earwig and stumbles upon a deadly conspiracy in the ant state that threatens the entire garden, with all its diverse inhabitants. There are diligent ants with their authoritarian queen, nasty wasps, Dex and Dax the two earthworms who used to be one, the sugar-addicted fly Jacky, and the cockroaches who are regulars at Dixie's Bar. Thus, in this insect crime novel, a wide variety of characters clash – from brave to cunning, from panicked to intriguing – making the story an exciting and humorous journey through the garden. ABOUT THE COURSE We are building on the success of recent years and are once again bringing a truly professional and great play to the stage. Or rather, to two stages, as we will be performing again at Emailwerk in Seekirchen and Kleines Theater in Salzburg. Working on a play requires not only a great deal of enthusiasm for acting, but also learning lines, developing a unique role, and the patience to repeat scenes until they are just right. Above all, we will have a lot of fun, grow together as a group, and experience many unforgettable moments together. "The Bug" was already performed by the Youth Club in Seekirchen, but with several attempts, as Corona intervened. In the first attempt, we had to stop and could not bring a play to the stage. Instead, we shot a small trailer at the time. In it, you get to know some of the many funny characters: Trailer REQUIREMENTS Attendance at all performance dates High time availability during the specified course times; the two weekend dates are mandatory (Please inform us of any known unavailable dates when registering, as well as other times that correlate with the course time) Reliable "cooperation" (Learning lines, responsible and tidy handling of premises, stage, props, naturally performing setup and cleanup tasks...) Supportive parents (Functional communication with management, passing on information to the children, printing texts, helping the child with learning if necessary, willingness to help with costumes, possibly stage design, and bearing the costs for these as a group) Consent to photo and video recordings for promotional purposes (Clarify special requests in advance) STAGE DESIGN, COSTUMES & PROPS An element not to be underestimated for a successful theater production is the visual aspect, i.e., stage design, costumes & props (and of course also lighting design and makeup). We will design the costumes together; the completion will again be done at home, as otherwise, it would exceed our time frame. The costs for costumes, stage design, and props are, based on experience, between €30.00 and €50.00 per child (additional costs). WORKSHOP LEADER: LYDIA NASSALL From an early age, Lydia Nassall loved everything to do with "dressing up and playing" and dancing. So, directly after graduating from school, she studied acting, dance, and singing in Vienna. This was followed by numerous engagements on German-speaking stages as well as in film and television productions. From 2011 to 2018, she was a member of the ensemble of the "Kinder- und Jugendtheater Eukitea" near Augsburg. There she got to know the medium of theater from an educational perspective and gained experience with children and young people in numerous prevention theater performances and theater pedagogical workshops. Playing theater can strengthen people, open them up to others and themselves, build bridges, liberate, and simply make them happy! Lydia Nassall has lived for 3 years
