Cobario
What's it about?
The multi-award-winning trio started in 2006 in Barcelona as street musicians. Soon, Cobario was invited to festivals and then to concert halls across Europe, North America, and Asia. The Viennese musicians have since performed in over 30 countries and delighted audiences from New York to Hong Kong. Often, just a few notes in their unusual instrumentation of violin and two guitars are enough to trigger a true explosion of images in the mind. The irresistible charm and contagious joy of playing that the three musicians, Herwig Schaffner (violin), Peter Weiss (guitar), and Dino Sulic (guitar), bring to the stage make each of their concerts a pleasure. Around their pieces, the charismatic musicians like to tell stories with typical Viennese humor, dry and cozy. Enthralling rhythms, orchestral sound, energetic show. This is what the audience can expect from Cobario's new program "Strings on Fire!" The new, virtuoso show is a musical dance with fire. In the composition "Avanti," the two guitarists duel with driving riffs and Spanish solos. During the title track "Strings On Fire," the ultimate showdown occurs — the stage trembles, and the audience roars. Herwig Schaffner began learning violin and piano at age eight and was accepted into the Mozarteum Salzburg at 16. He played in the European Youth Orchestra and worked with conductors like Yehudi Menuhin and Sandor Végh. Concert tours took him through Europe and Asia. Georg Aichberger started playing guitar at age 14 and initially shaped his style autodidactically in numerous band projects. He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His concert activities led him through several European countries. Dino Sulic discovered the guitar at age nine and deepened his skills autodidactically and through lessons. After band and ensemble experiences, he studied classical, pop, and jazz guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Concerts took him across Europe, and since 2025, he has been part of Cobario.
