What's it about?
With his international hit "Disko Partizani," Shantel became the audible face of a new music and dance culture worldwide. He was the first to infuse current pop culture with a cosmopolitan sound due to his diverse family roots. At Shantel, migration is audible and danceable. Musical treasures from Southeast Europe, Greece, and the Middle East appear in a new, layered context. Shantel sees his work as a musician as a creative preparation of an ongoing discourse between theory and practice. The audible, felt, and danceable results are always a product of his very personal engagement with music as a specific expression of the historical, cultural, social, and political soundscape of a place. His output as a DJ, producer, and musician has always been in the tension between tradition and modernity, and between analog and digital.
