What's it about?

80 Years of Salzburger Adventsingen It began in 1946 as a modest folk-cultural memorial celebration for friends with a longing for a better, more peaceful world and developed under the founder Tobi Reiser d. Ä. into Salzburger Adventsingen — the seed and a great example for numerous "Advent singing" events throughout the German-speaking area. The performances at the archiepiscopal residence and in the auditorium of the University of Salzburg quickly became too small, and in 1960 Tobi Reiser took the leap into the newly built Great Festival Hall. His successor Tobias Reiser d. J. continued this responsible legacy successfully from 1974, giving the Adventsingen in the Great Festival Hall a new, artistically demanding profile until his death in 1999. The successful path of careful but steady development has been continued since 2000 under the direction of Hans Köhl. The traditional event has evolved into a socially relevant, now internationally sought major cultural event. From the beginning, this peace project has carried the central message of peace to all good-willed people. Interwoven with the Advent mystery of birth, with familiar sounds and contemporary ideas, the productions become unique experiences. About 34,000 visitors come every year — totaling over two million guests since its founding. At the anniversary Adventsingen 2026, the curtain will rise on the 1000th performance in the Great Festival Hall, further emphasizing the popularity of this unique original. The world's most beautiful story Believers, but also visitors who are not deeply religious, find new universal perspectives through this most beautiful story of the world, reflecting socially relevant spiritual messages. Salzburger Adventsingen strives, in our turbulent times, to convey hope and confidence with messages that touch the heart. Shepherds who win hearts The shepherd children have been the "heart" of Salzburger Adventsingen for 75 years. Their performances are among the most touching and atmospheric moments. With an unpretentious, honest-childlike manner, they are experienced in the most beautiful Salzburger dialect and delight audiences annually with their shepherd songs, G’stanzln (traditional folk verses), and the original Schleunigen with Påsch. Familiar songs and melodies Salzburger Adventsingen has a unique musical dialect. The harmoniously coordinated sound fabric of familiar folk songs and melodies, classical works, and new compositions creates a moodful sound experience every year, in which the secret of the spiritual message resonates in a special way. A large community During performances in the Great Festival Hall, it is palpable how the energy of over 2000 visitors and performers flows together. An indescribable, energetic aura of a large community unfolds, reaching a blissful climax at the joint singing of the prayer yodel.
