What's it about?
Two bands meet, whose roots go back to the rebellious Salzburg post-punk scene of the late 1980s and who are intertwined with each other as well as with the founding of the Rockhouse. The geometry of noise At the Rockhouse, two bands come together whose shared history begins in the late 1980s. It is the fault line of Salzburg's cultural history: while the official Mozart city manages high-gloss culture, an alternative movement forms on the fringes. On the turntables, post-punk and alternative guitar rock spin — loud, political, unpolished. The pop-cultural diktat of those days is quite pragmatic: three chords, maximum volume, raw energy. From this impulse, not only a new musical self-assertion emerges but ultimately also the founding of the Rockhouse as an institutional free space for a pressing scene. Fault lines and lineages Among the protagonists of this zero hour was the band "In The Bend End Band." Their personnel lineage extended over the years into both the band Grovers Mill and The Jekyl & Hyde Park Band. The latter sees its present less as a museum retrospective than as a continuation: "Even after 35 years, we stay true to our style: catchy melodies amidst atmospheric, sometimes brutal soundscapes. It’s a journey back to the garages of alternative rock, which today serves as a reference framework for younger generations." The stylistic range of the "Jekyls" remains deliberately ambivalent. It moves between the dense, almost apocalyptic droning of classical rock mythologies and country-esque, cinematic breaks in the style of a "Rodeo Riders and Clowns." What remains is a reflection on the core: the principle of a functioning, analog band.
