Important key facts about the popular weekly market Since 1906, there has been the "Weekly Market for Regional Products" on the forecourt of St. Andrä Church. Alongside the Nasch- and Brunnenmarkt in Vienna, the Salzburger weekly market is one of the largest and most well-known markets in Austria. Starting at 5:00 a.m., farmers and restaurateurs offer fresh, high-quality specialties at fair prices. While flowers and plants are very popular in summer, Advent wreaths are sold in winter, and traditional Palm bouquets are sold around Easter at the approximately 190 stalls. For those who prefer culinary delights, a hearty fried chicken (Backhendl), a clear fish soup, or a typical Salzburger snack from the sausage stand are recommended. But where does the name of the famous weekly market actually come from? According to tradition, the name originates from the city grain depots of the Schrannen building at Mirabellplatz and in Schrannenstraße. Popularity of the Schrannen Since its beginnings, the Schrannen has been a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
