Samson custom Symbol of regional awareness The Samson is one of those regional cultural assets that are considered particularly identity-forming for the Salzburger Lungau and its population. The Samson, weighing between around 65 and 105 kg, rests on the shoulders of a single Samson bearer. This person carries it alone when dancing or marching to the music of the local brass band; otherwise, it is supported by four "Aufhabern" (helpers). In front of the houses of dignitaries and patrons, and to entertain the crowd of interested visitors, the Samson performs honorary dances.
