CZECH REPUBLIC CROSSES OVER Readings & discussions in correspondence with the Czech Republic's guest country appearance at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2026 // International: Czech Republic Under the motto "A Country on the Coast", the Czech Republic is presenting itself this year as the guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair – and is also making a stop in Bad Ischl with the literary festival Ahoj! Czech Republic Crosses Over. From September 30 to October 2, 2026, the Kurdirektion bookstore will become a meeting point for contemporary Czech literature and extraordinary literary voices. Between poetic miniatures, philosophical expeditions, and social reflections, a literature unfolds that transcends boundaries – linguistically, geographically, and intellectually. In her new novel, Radka Denemarková looks at the aftermath of the 19th century up to our present day, Lucie Faulerová tells with tender intensity about life after loss, while Petr Borkovec discovers poetic epiphanies in everyday moments. Dora Kaprálová and Michal Ajvaz, in turn, take us into surreal landscapes of Central Europe, where reality and magic flow into each other. The festival combines readings, discussions, and translations into a multi-voiced panorama of contemporary Czech literature – a literary mini-festival about being on the road, translating, and the power of stories to open up new spaces.
