We will guide you through the 1500m³ large rock cellar and show you the traces of the Ice Age, the 500-year-old brewing cellar system, and what a painter's studio has to do with a singing Ischler innkeeper. Experience an exciting time travel through the oldest beer cellar in Bad Ischl, which served as a large cooling storage for citizens and the brewery. The history and geology of the cellar are told in an entertaining way. Afterwards, you can enjoy our house-brewed beer specialties in the historic brewing room. The cellar was owned by the Ischl brewery until 1908. The building is known as "Cafe Casino" and came into the possession of the Schmalnauer family in 1971. This so-called "Grieblkeller" is a 500-year-old natural cellar. The original cellar was even larger, as it was connected to neighboring cellars. Carved by hand from sandstone conglomerate, the cellar served as a large refrigerator for Bad Ischl residents and especially for the "Alt Ischlerbräu," with an average temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius. The remarkable medieval construction of the vaulted cellar is mostly still preserved in its original state. The cart could easily turn around the natural stone pillar to exit back outside. Even today, the traces of the cellar's excavation are clearly visible. Guided tours: Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, and Sun at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM Duration: approximately 1 hour; tours start promptly.
