What's it about?

The St. Florianer Sängerknaben look back on an almost 1,000-year history. Their existence in the Augustinian Canons' Monastery of St. Florian in Upper Austria has been documented since the year 1071. For generations, the choir has stood for the cultivation and development of sacred choral music and is today one of the most traditional ensembles of its kind. Under the direction of Markus Stumpner, the St. Florianer Sängerknaben regularly perform on renowned stages and at international festivals and collaborate with famous orchestras. Soloists from the boys' choir often take on the roles intended for boys in opera productions. In addition to traditional choir work, the ensemble is characterized by stylistic openness and high musical flexibility. At this concert, the St. Florianer Sängerknaben and their male choir present a versatile choral program that transcends musical and linguistic boundaries. Works by Augustinus Franz Kropfreiter, Jukka Linkola, and Zoltán Kodály, as well as contemporary arrangements by Bob Chilcott, show the wide range between sacred tradition, folk music, and modern choral art. An evening for all who want to discover the diversity of vocal sound worlds.
