This can impair abilities such as memory, thinking, orientation, and language. The disease usually develops slowly and progresses over time. In the beginning, the changes are often minor, but later, those affected need more and more support in everyday life. Even though dementia is currently not curable, medication and good care can slow its progression and improve quality of life. Patience, understanding, and respectful interaction with those affected are also important so that they feel safe and valued.
