Holecek - A Journey Through Vienna
What's it about?
A journey through Vienna Sebastian Holecek Wed. November 18, 2026, 7:30 PM, Altes Theater The baritone Sebastian Holecek presents his concert program A Journey Through Vienna, featuring musical classics of a particularly charming Austrian genre - the Wienerlied (Viennese song). The singer is accompanied on piano by Jimmy Chang. The evening begins with the Viennese in the opera: Mozart's Papageno. He lives what the Wienerlied sings about. Among others, there are some precious numbers from the Kremser albums, the treasure chamber of the Wienerlied, and a waltz sequence from Richard Strauss’s Rosenkavalier. Between the songs, Sebastian Holecek reads humorous excerpts from texts by Alfred Krutisch, Josef Weinheber, and Egon Fridell. The singer concludes the evening with songs including Wien wird schön erst bei Nacht and Wien, Wien nur Du allein, the city’s secret anthem to the beautiful blue Danube. Sebastian Holecek was engaged in 2006 as Germont in La Traviata and in 2009 as Escamillo in Carmen at the Steyr Music Festival.
