All you have to do is stand still and look stupid." - Hedy Lamarr The life of Viennese Hedwig Kiesler, who made a career in Hollywood, was both dreamlike and traumatic. This tragicomedy tells the adventures of a woman with many faces: Hedwig Kiesler became Hedy Lamarr, style icon, film actress, madwoman and inventor, seductress, prisoner, victim and perpetrator all at once. A meteoric rise is followed by a bitter fall for the "most beautiful woman in the world", who is publicly branded as a criminal lunatic. Adored for her incomparable face, her intelligence was mostly underestimated. Always progressive and self-determined in love and in the choice of her partners, she sees her own self-worth diminish with the loss of her beauty. Numerous cosmetic surgeries and her efforts to constantly reinvent herself culminate in a betrayal of her own soul. Hedy Lamarr is a face, a mask, sometimes even a grimace behind which we can only guess at the truths of her life, a storyteller who weaves fairy tales from the fabric of her own life. She understands nothing better than to cast herself in the role of both witch and princess. In any case, she always plays the main role. Director and puppet maker Kai Anne Schuhmacher stages "The Faces of Hedy Lamarr" as a passionate search for truth about a profound heroine.
