What's it about?

DAVID – Life Paths of a King King David is one of the most complex figures in the Bible: shepherd and musician, warrior and king, poet and father. His life story combines faith and power, success and failure, intimate praise and deep lament. The a cappella program "David" musically explores these tensions and connects works from several centuries into a compelling overall picture. Compositions by Arvo Pärt, Heinrich Schütz, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Johannes Brahms reveal different facets of this personality. The program is complemented by works from James MacMillan, Sven-David Sandström, Donatas Zakaras, and Thomas Tomkins Burchard, which reflect David's existential experiences from a contemporary perspective. Chor Ad Libitum sings music "at will" – and they love to do so. The programs include music of all styles, from a cappella pieces to large choir-orchestra works.
