Ouro Negro
What's it about?
"Ouro Negro" stands for Black Gold and refers to the infinitely rich treasure of Afro-Brazilian music. The four-member Vienna band "Ouro Negro" enchants with the special combination of tenor saxophone and voice. The singer and guitarist Yta Moreno from Rio and the Vienna saxophonist Christian Gonsior have shared a musical friendship since the mid-1990s. They delve into the fascination of rhythms and sounds and take the audience on an exotic, magical journey. Their current CD "Ouro Negro" results from years of fruitful collaboration and musical joy of creation between the two in Vienna. Moreno composes funky pieces as well as choros inspired by nature experiences, using popular Brazilian rhythms such as Bossa Nova, Partido Alto, Baiao, or lively sambas as a basis. He incorporates the melancholic mood of lost loves, melancholy, and the Brazilian feeling of Saudade. Gonsior's compositions additionally reflect North American jazz as well as West African and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Together with bassist Herfried Knapp and drummer Bernhard Koeper, Ouro Negro also presents compelling original compositions and selected songs from the Brazilian music universe!
