The glamorous comeback of Canzone Classica Napoletana Suonno d’Ajere stand for the refined and glamorous comeback of the Neapolitan song. The name of the trio, founded in 2016, roughly means "The Dream of Yesterday" and refers to the song of the same name on Pino Daniele's debut album Terra Mia (1977). The three young musicians are dedicated to the research and contemporary reinterpretation of the rich tradition of Neapolitan songs. The lineup is reminiscent of the Posteggia, street and tavern musicians particularly popular in the 19th century, whose performances were enjoyed by the common people as much as by the rulers. The trio's musical approach, however, is significantly more polished. Suonno d’Ajere want to free the old songs from commercialism and kitsch and restore their dignity and power, and they have certainly succeeded: In Italy, their stylistically rigorous and refined combination of folk and art music, always typical of Naples, has already earned them an appearance at the Venice Biennale for the film music to the documentary La Chimera, as well as first prize at the Sanremo Canta Napoli Festival. Their first album Suspiro was released in 2019. It was released worldwide with bonus tracks in 2021 and promptly nominated for the German Record Critics' Award. Since then, the trio has been a regular guest at showcase events and festivals around the globe and in 2024 released the critically acclaimed follow-up album "Nun V’Annamurate" ("Don't Fall in Love"), entirely dedicated to love. Her voice can also be found on soundtracks, including the film “La Chimera” shown at the Biennale di Venezia in 2017 and in “Veleno” (Diego Olivares). In 2018 and 2019, she was a member of the ensemble of theater director Luciano Melchionna. MARCELLO SMIGLIANTE GENTILE Marcello Smigliante Gentile has been playing the mandolin since he was ten years old and graduated with honors from the Conservatory in Naples. Since 2012, he has played in various ensembles, including the Melis Mandolin Quartet, with whom he performs at national and international concerts and festivals. GIAN MARCO LIBECCIO Gian Marco Libeccio has been playing guitar since childhood and discovered classical guitar and classical Neapolitan songs early on. He graduated with honors from the jazz music program at the Naples Conservatory of Music.
