OYSTERBAND'S JOHN JONES TRIO
What's it about?
JOHN JONES, RAY "CHOPPER" COOPER & AL SCOTT John Jones is best known as the powerful and charismatic singer of OYSTERBAND – a band that has shaped the folk, punk, and roots scene like few others since the 1980s. What started as The Whitstable Oyster Company Ceilidh Band developed into one of the leading folk-rock acts in the British music scene. With over 20 albums, numerous music awards, and legendary performances at festivals such as Glastonbury, Wickham, Shrewsbury, and Tønder, they have won the hearts of a worldwide fanbase. Collaborations and two award-winning albums with folk icon June Tabor are also unforgettable. After the Oysterband recently bid farewell to the stage with their triumphant "The Long Goodbye" tour, John Jones is now opening a new, exciting chapter. In 2026, he will tour with brand-new music alongside two longtime friends and companions: Ray Cooper (alias Chopper) and Al Scott. Ray Cooper enriched the Oysterband from 1990 for over two decades with his distinctive cello sound, bass, and backing vocals before starting a successful solo career in 2013. Al Scott has been associated with the band for over 30 years as a producer, has often helped out on guitar, and took on bass permanently in 2013.
