Julia and Monika Dorninger Opening: October 2, 6 PM "Meet the Artist": Saturday, October 3, 2 to 6 PM Gallery on the first floor Free admission Monika Dorninger and Julia Dorninger form a mother-daughter artist duo. Their years of artistic work side by side in their studios in Vienna and Bad Leonfelden, as well as en plein air, and their joint exhibition series "Zwiegespräche" (Dialogues) led to the creation of collaborative artworks in 2021. A selection of these works is on view from September 30 to November 28 at the Galerie im mük in Freistadt, Samtgasse 4. The exhibition is open during the regular mük opening hours with free entry: Wednesday to Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM. The two artists describe the process of creating their works as an act of communication and exchange, where different artistic approaches and techniques are combined in a single piece. This has led the duo to develop a distinctive, unmistakable style. Landscapes and places serve as the starting point for complex artistic collages: figures drawn by Julia Dorninger enter open visual spaces, which are initially created by Monika Dorninger in watercolor and ink. This creates a dialogue between human and space, between two generations and two artistic handwriting styles. In their joint images, the atmospheres inherent in landscapes merge with social themes, coalescing into new visual stories. Biography Monika Dorninger Monika Dorninger / www.monika-dorninger.at / born 1946, lives and works in Vienna and Bad Leonfelden. Studied pharmacy at the University of Vienna, further artistic training at the Kunst VHS Vienna, numerous courses and painting trips, including in Vienna, Salzburg, Venice, Munich, Hamburg, in Piedmont and Tuscany. Participated in fairs and exhibitions domestically and internationally, including Künstlerhaus Vienna, Galerie Schloss Puchheim, Upper Austria, Kunstmesse Salzburg, Art Innsbruck, Kulturzentrum Englische Kirche in Homburg, Germany, Pavillon Joséphine in Strasbourg, France, St. Peter an der Sperr church exhibition in Lower Austria, and Haus der Kunst Baden, Lower Austria. Monika Dorninger's works are part of the collection of the city of Attnang-Puchheim, Upper Austria (purchased 2018) and several private collections both domestically and abroad. Artist Statement "For over four decades, I have dedicated myself to artistic work rooted in watercolor and drawing. My approach is especially influenced by working with reed pen and ink: an immediate, free, and spontaneous expression that allows for intuition and movement. Over time, my spectrum expanded to include painting on canvas, primarily with acrylics in layered processes. Layer by layer, works emerge that condense traces of time, overlay, and change. Collage elements complement this process, adding expressive power and both conceptual and material depth to the works. A central part of my artistic practice is working on-site. The direct encounter with the environment, its atmosphere, structure, and mood, becomes the starting point of my work. My images are not mere representations but condensations of experiences: they respond to what is felt, transform it, and make it visible in my own visual language. Works thus oscillate between spontaneity and reflection, between immediate impression and layered revision."
