Maria Muhar - Mariannengraben
What's it about?
A run-down gas station bistro at Austria's lowest point, the Mariannengraben. 113 meters above sea level, world events drift past the sticky counter alongside various drinks: failed grill evenings, the inability to drink from an EU-standardized buttermilk carton, hardcore heartbreak, and eternal loyalty to the internal combustion engine in Austria's car country. Driven by melange and apricot schnapps, one soon reaches the big concepts: freedom, responsibility, and justice. Power, status, and their symbols. Late at night, the hardened front lines seem to move not an inch – only storm front Herta quickly gains speed at the gas station. And as the water level rises, the lines that were just drawn in the Mariannengraben begin to blur. Between dark humor and existential urgency, Maria Muhar slips through an absurd reflection on a time that is barely comprehensible anymore. Unless you reach down to the deepest point.
