What's it about?

'Paradise calls – Undercover in Vienna's Red Light District' is a thriller novel featuring a covert investigator. The story is set in Vienna in the early 2000s, a time when people had become accustomed to being reachable at all times via their mobile phones, although smartphones did not yet exist. The city is home to various criminal milieus and mafia circles, and over a million people from around the world live there. The main character is journalism student Laura, who wants to not only study the method of undercover research theoretically but also try it out herself. She ends up working in a call center, mediating prostitutes, and when one is murdered, she tries to find the killer together with the pimp Andi — of course without police involvement. Author Nina Jelinek will read excerpts from her new work. Some pieces played on instruments in the Mechanical Sound Factory will transport listeners to Vienna and immerse them fully in the story.
