On the other hand, also secretly creating artists, invisible geniuses who may be noticed in distant futures, or maybe not. Or you are a troubadour. Originally, in the words of the encyclopedia, a "poet, composer, and singer of courtly medieval songs". The term has since evolved. Dylan has also introduced himself as a troubadour. Being a troubadour is not something you choose. You are born a troubadour. You carry yourself and your songs to the marketplace. Because you have to. Fabian Belfin and Robin Ullmann, the core of the band Belle Fin, are troubadours. The tools of their relaxed yet virtuosic songwriting and playing hang rust-free at their belts. Belle Fin travel the land with guitar and trumpet. "Ramblin’ Men," as Hank Williams titled his own depiction of the troubadour. They write songs in a broadly Viennese language that can fly from the salon to the Beserlpark and back at any time. Songs about love and for love, about suffering and compassion, about intoxication and the fight for truth. Belle Fin sing all of this with a fervor, a burning enthusiasm that makes it impossible to ignore their music. Sometimes reinforced by Matthias Ihrybauer on the accordion and Peter Engel on the double bass, Belle Fin sometimes become a midnight Kirtag (traditional fair) poetry band. Federico Fellini’s despair and melancholy, as well as Joseph Roth’s melancholy, resonate equally. Charlie Bader and I have been fans of Belle Fin’s troubadours for several years now.
