What's it about?

A creative workshop for everyone who wants to transform light into color. The cyanotype – also called Blaudruck (blue print) – is one of the oldest photographic printing processes. Using sunlight, water, and a special light-sensitive solution, fascinating deep blue images are created that resemble dream landscapes, shadow drawings, or delicate memories. In this workshop, you will learn the technique of cyanotype step by step: from coating paper, exposing it with natural materials, to washing and drying the finished prints. Each work is unique – each an original, each a small piece of sky blue. Whether with leaves, lace fabrics, everyday objects, or your own drawings – cyanotype invites experimentation. Through chance and intuition, poetic images emerge that celebrate the charm of the unpredictable. Besides the technical basics, the focus is on free, playful creation: How can different materials be combined? What effects are created by varying exposure times or substrates? And how can the process be transferred to textiles or other surfaces? Contents: Introduction to the history and fundamentals of cyanotype Preparation and coating of papers and fabrics Exposure with sunlight or UV lamp Experimenting with natural materials, stencils, and objects Tips for further processing and presentation of the works Target group: All interested – no prior knowledge required. Maximum number of participants: 12 Instructor: Thomas Hackl (Photographer, filmmaker, artist, home/contact) Course fee: 110 euros, including materials and refreshments Registration: directly via the ticket link, or by email to bildung@sanktmagdalena.at
