The first ecological holiday in Austria Thu, 05.11.2026, 16:00 – 22:00 at the Kunstuni Linz, the Kirche Grüner Anker, and the path in between Can climate awareness also evoke positive feelings such as joy, unity, and hope? On November 5th, we want to create new inclusive reference points for a planet in crisis through the proclamation of the "Zwentendorf – Holiday" — especially in times of climate collapse and authoritarian erosion of democracy! On the anniversary of the "No to Nuclear Power" vote, we celebrate and demand Austria's first ecological holiday. A day to remember old struggles and achievements and to gather strength for new transformations. A ritual to collectively practice rejecting modern promises of salvation and to find a better life on this planet. Because something extraordinary happened on November 5, 1978: beyond all divisions, Austria found consensus and has since been proud of its now constitutionally enshrined nuclear-free status. On this day, we want to remember and learn that climate consciousness does not have to evoke only negative feelings like shame, fear, and depression, but can also lead to empowerment, pride, hope, and longing for a better life! Positive reference points are needed for a society in multiple crisis to face the enormous challenges of the future with hope and strength. This year, we will celebrate this new, still officially contested holiday for a livable Austria's future for the second time at Kunstuni Linz, the Kirche Grüner Anker, and along the path in between. Visitors and fellow celebrants can expect a diverse and high-quality program ranging from opera to discourse, performance to multimedia installation, concert to activist sharing circle, and culinary installation. At the heart of the remembrance of resistance and celebrating the value of rejection for a livable future is this year’s focus on Kronstorf — a place not far from Linz where Google plans to build one of Europe's largest data centers, with catastrophic impacts on water, environment, energy supply, and society. This year, we loudly call to Kronstorf: "We make you Zwentendorf!" With the shell of the server monster that will never open, surely even more amusing uses can be found! On this festive day, celebrations will begin at 4 pm in Room D of Kunstuni Linz (Hauptplatz 6, 5th floor). There will be lectures on nuclear energy, data centers, and ongoing, past, and future struggles for a better future. There will also be musical performances by opera singer Andrew Munn and others, video installations by the Committee of Gradual Incapacitation (CGI), and a performative piece by Christina Gruber about the Google data center in Kronstorf. Additionally, there will be soup and a collective call with activists from near and far, who will tell us what else will be done in the future for Zwentendorf (A26, Lobau Autobahn, St. Marx Event Hall, ...). After this opening, the Committee of Gradual Incapacitation (CGI) together with the Gegentonorchester will invite at 6 pm to a performative procession across the Danube, where the ritual of the "Cancellation Day" will be performed for the second time. Arriving at the church of Grüner Anker (7 pm), there will be the performance "High Activity Long Life" by the French theater collective La.e Mutant.e, which has written a critical and humorous piece about the planned nuclear waste repository in Bure, France. Finally, a mass celebrating the Austrian constitution on nuclear freedom will conclude, ending in a rave with DJ Nyx. Food in the form of "Nuclear Energy? No Thanks!" waffles will be provided! Permanent exhibits include: ● Video installation "Recognition of Limits" by the Committee of Gradual Incapacitation (CGI) ● Exhibition of materials from 50 years of anti-nuclear activism by Thomas Neff ● Zine: “Extrawurst”
