Klassik am Dom 2027 - Peter Cornelius
What's it about?
For over five decades, Peter Cornelius has been one of the most successful singer-songwriters in the German-speaking world. Many of his songs have become classics, such as 'Reif für die Insel', 'Segel im Wind', and of course 'Du entschuldige i kenn di'. The frontman, singer-songwriter, and lead guitarist Peter Cornelius, known for his heartfelt ballads and uptempo songs with profound lyrics, also loved for his virtuosic guitar playing, celebrated his 75th birthday in 2026 with a large tour, which continues in 2027. He is accompanied on stage by his band, consisting of bass, drums, and keyboards. Born in Vienna in 1951, Cornelius is one of the most influential German-speaking songwriters. His music is always inspired by personal experiences and social observations. "Sometimes I write and compose whether I want to or not — reflexively. As if it were the most normal thing in the world to do." Much of this can be heard in his songs. They are a wonderful array of windows created over the years, offering glimpses into the innermost self of the man for a few minutes. In his concerts, you are taken as a traveler and immersed in the world he brings. "Strangely, at 75, going on tour seems more natural to me than at 40 or 50. I early adopted the song ‘I’m not like everybody else’ by The Kinks as a motto — as a guide. With each song, Cornelius energizes, encourages, often makes you think, and sometimes there is meaning between the lines, leading his audience to the in-between tones. His songs are total works of art written with his unmistakable signature." Over the years, people have repeatedly told me that my songs are timeless. I am timeless." Peter Cornelius & Band live — this is an absolutely timeless highlight in the KLASSIK AM DOM concert calendar!
