Die Csárdásfürstin
What's it about?
Emmerich Kálmán's The Csárdásfürstin is truly a sparkling jewel of the operetta genre: This begins with the story itself, which is an entertaining mix of great emotions, exaggerated humor, a shady nightclub, and glittering aristocratic world. It tells the story of the love between the celebrated chanson singer Sylva Varescu and the high-ranking aristocrat Edwin, whose social differences threaten to tear them apart. Kálmán composed music that, in a blend typical for this composer, combines a melancholic longing tone with sincere cheerfulness and lively dance rhythms, capturing the emotional range of the varied events on stage brilliantly. It is needless to say that almost every number in this score has become a hit, and that in Linz, this highlight of the genre is directed by operetta specialist Thomas Enzinger, ensuring it is in the best hands.
